Tips on How to Stop Nosebleeding
Most nosebleeds are not serious. You may get one because of dry air or high altitude, an injury to the nose, or medicines (especially aspirin). Blowing or picking your nose can also cause a nosebleed.
People who have allergy problems may get nosebleeds a lot because the inside of the nose is irritated. Allergy medicines may help with this, but they can make the problem worse if you use them too often. Talk to your provider about how best to use these medicines.
How to treat nosebleed at home:
1. Sit up straight, and tip your head slightly forward. Tilting your head back may cause blood to run down your throat, which may make you vomit.
2. Blow your nose gently to remove any blood clots. Then pinch your nose shut with your thumb and index finger for 10 minutes.
3. After 10 minutes, check to see if your nose is still bleeding. If it is, pinch it shut for 10 more minutes. Most nosebleeds will stip after you do this for 10 to 30 minutes.
4.Do not blow your nose for at least 12 hours after the bleeding has stopped.
5. If your nose is very dry, breathe moist air for a while (such as in the shower). Then put a little petroleum jelly inside of your nose. A saline nasal spray may also help.
