Alcoholism is in reality one the most serious concerns facing our society from that of the youth and most especially the elderly ones. Needless to say, drinking has become a favorite form of leisure activity by many and most of them, men seldom to women. Yet little do we know how the simple act of enjoying nightly drinks can be more harmful than we actually think, and turn out to be habit forming.
It in reality may significantly retardate our muscle growth. In addition to what we most know of, the excessive intake of this drug, (yes, alcohol is a drug). It does not only increase fat storage in our body because of the 7 empty calories contained per gram of alcohol, but it also disrupts the Krebs Cycle or otherwise called, citric acid cycle or tricarboylic acid cycle, which plays an important role in fat burning.
Moreover, the dehydrating effect brought by drinking does not only end with giving an unlikely feeling. It resonates to a noteworthy lack of water content in our muscles that of which is suppose to contain about 70% water.
Testosterone and estrogen levels in our body may not also be spared in the unconstructive effects of taking in alcohol. It lowers the testosterone level, the most important muscle-building hormone in ones system that determines how much muscle a person can gain. Consequently, this allows a rise in our bodies an estrogen level that is not good for elderly individual where testosterone level declines.
Lastly, the most notable negative effect of drinking is its ability to deplete the body of vitamins and minerals. Alcohol consumption causes vitamins A, C, the B’s, calcium, zinc and phosphorus to all be exhausted at rapid rates. Vitamins and minerals keep every little process in your body functioning properly, and many of these processes involve muscle growth and maintenance.
In as much as drinking has undeniably made its significant spot in today’s form of socializations, we cannot deem insignificant, the aforementioned negative effects it may cause. Given so, we can at least keep our alcohol intake at a level low enough to keep us away from the ill outcomes. Once a month of little drinking, a strict observance of healthy eating, and a great amount of water intake will certainly keep our muscle growth in smooth sailing.
As a person gets older, our health becomes so delicate and needs more care. We should practice healthy lifestyle like eating the right nutritious foods, have sufficient sleep and rest, get plenty of water, have a holistic attitude and do some exercises.
Get rid of the bad practice of habitual drinking, though a shot or two will do. You must always bear in mind what ALCOHOL possibly does to you:
• Cause dehydration
• Is an empty calories
• Weakens muscle
• Slower protein synthesis
• Lowers testosterone level, that hastens aging, thus increasing estrogen in men
• Weakens bone density
